Stepping Upon a Purposeful Path

While searching for my purpose

And uncertain where to look

I enrolled in seminars and classes

and poured through reams of books.

I looked everywhere around me

Sought advice from those outside

Who seemed to have the answers,

Were so brilliant, inspiring and wise.

Knowing my purpose is essential

It’s such a vital goal

For surely not having one

Would really take its toll!

I put my best foot forward

Yet hadn’t found a clue,

to find specific guidance

of what to be and do.

My soles got mighty tired

From trekking far and wide

Was there a chance I might have missed

The one true place to find my bliss?

It’s so exhausting and confusing

Searching far and near

Please, can someone tell me?

So my path will be made clear.

While waiting for the answer

Of what to do and be,

Came crystal clear direction

Somewhere deep inside of me.

“Listen to your heart so you will know

Just what you’re here to do.

The heart pulses with a plan

Tune into what it’s saying to you.”

“Give wings to your dreams

Let your ideas soar!

Put your talents to work

And you’ll find joy to the core.”

“Indeed, it takes fancy footwork

and many steps along the way.

But alas! Your soul's purpose is made clear to you today.

Just let your shoes carry you to where you want to be

One step at a time . . .and let your heart take the lead.”
